I had the pleasure of working with Mike for a number of years. I am so sorry I cannot make the funeral as I am in London but just wanted to say what a genuinely nice bloke Mike was – a real gentleman!

Even though I only knew Mike for several years, I feel lucky to of met him and to call him a friend.
The world has lost a kind, thoughtful, generous and above all lovely man. My love and thoughts are with Jill, Jake and all the family at this sad time.

I have some really brilliant memories of Mike spanning the last 37 years. As a father to my brother and sister, Hattie and Jez and to their brother Jake, he was a funny and generous man. His generosity always stretched to me too, never forgetting a single birthday, Christmas or Easter. I always felt included and loved. If we went on holiday or a school trip Mike would always bring us some foreign currency, I was never left out of this tradition and it always made me feel so special. When we visited home last Christmas Mike met my two children and my eldest, who was 2 at the time, didn’t hesitate in naming him Grandpa Mikey or ask him why he had bottles of beer under his Christmas tree! Being the kind of guy he was Mike did not think twice about taking Ruben for a spin in his wheelchair. We are so grateful for that special time with Mike, Jill, Jake, Hattie and Jez, Jen, Sonny and Scout last Christmas. We love you all and are so sorry that we cannot make it over from Sydney to be with you all on Tuesday. I’ll miss all the conversations and emails with Mike and especially the jokes and riddles and play on words that he was so good at. Xxx

Mike
We’re going to miss you mate.
We will always remember our holidays in Wales with you, Jill and Jake. You always took the lead up Cader Idris without fail. Kids managed to keep up with you as they got older, but you always got the better of the ladies!
Long hikes followed by Trivial Pursuit games, they never lasted long as Mike would clean up very quickly.
Curries in Kings Heath are another thing that became the ‘norm’ on our trips back to Brum.
Oh and also, Mike was nearly always in shorts, no matter what the weather, he would always be dressed for summer, keen as to get on with whatever was planned for the day.
Your wit, your knowledge, your stamina and your courageousness will always be in our memories.
Mike, we’re going to miss mate!

Despite only knowing Mike for a few years later in his life I consider the time spent with him to be a privilege.
His infectious appetite and zest for life never failed to amaze me, as did his age when he shared this with us. His love of exercise and knowledge of music put the so called younger ones of us to shame.
His enthusiasm for Moseley and England rugby led to many interesting debates over how we would do things instead given the opportunity.
Lastly my ongoing memories of Mike will be his bravery, dignity and tenacity in facing his diagnosis.
Thank you Mike for the memories
I had the pleasure of working with Mike for just over 3 years and in that short time I grew very fond of him. He was so young at heart and a fabulous sense of humour. I’m so sorry I cannot be there today to say goodbye. Sending my love to all of the family, Mike talked about all of his family very much, he was very proud of all of his children and grandchildren and so in love with his wife Jill. A truly amazing man. Rest in peace Mike xxx
