Arrangements for the funeral of Shirley Rodway
Thursday 18th July 2019
Service at 12.30pm at St Alphege Church, Solihull
Family and friends are gathering for a service at St Alphege Church to celebrate and pay tribute to Shirley’s life.
Everyone is welcome at the church, and then afterwards at the Oliver Bird Hall, in the church grounds, for refreshments and to share further memories.
A private family cremation will be taking place later in the day.

The service will start at 12.30 in the church and refreshments will be served afterwards in the Oliver Bird Hall which is also in the church grounds.

Shirley loved flowers so if you have a floral tie, dress or scarf please do wear them in her honour.

If you wish to do something in memory of Shirley we will be collecting donations on the day of the funeral for Heartlands Hospital ICU – Intensive Care Unit, as they were absolutely incredible whilst caring for Shirley in the short time that she was with them.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Shirley”s death.I sat next to her at lunch only a few weeks ago and we had our usual lively chat .I knew her through the U3a ,specifically the Art Group ,and we enjoyed many outings to exhibitions together She was good company and very ‘gallant’ I always thought. My thoughts and prayers are with her family -she spoke often of the grandchildren of whom she was very proud
I was so sad to hear of Shirley’s untimely death. I have played many enjoyable games of Crown Bowls with her. I also was always
delighted to meet her at U3A events. She was always concerned about other people’s welfare and will be sorely missed.

It has been my pleasure to have kmown Shirley through U 3 A , we’ve shared various outing together recently to Compton Verney Art Gallery to share our love of art and more recently our trip to Bristol to explore the S S Great Britain ,a day we both thoroughly enjoyed . I only visited Shirley one week before she died taking her a little bunch of. freesias which she was thrilled with and we had a really good chat . I cannot believe that exactly one week later she was no longer with us . I will miss her , for her enthusiasm and bright and positive out look on life . We must all remember the good times shared , my thoughts and prayers are with her family.

A lady who loved and showed generous appreciation of people, and was thankful for all she received. I will miss her for her warmth of nature and support for the U3A Art Appreciation Group which she usually attended each month. The last time I saw her was at a recent art exhibition at The Core in Solihull where we discussed the water colourists artwork, enjoyed coffee and a chat.. I first met and fell for Shirley’s positive, cheerful and lovely attitude when we met at U3A, Shirley was pleased to be made at home by someone and I enjoyed the experience of showing her around and happy to have become one of her friends. A very special lady I will miss her warm smile, her sudden loss was great.

Shirley was such a lovely vibrant person with a warm caring personality. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Dear Shirley, I knew Shirley through the U3A and we would sit and chat at the core meetings, she was always positive and cheerful,
We also introduced her to the Jazz club in Solihull which she really loved. I will miss her friendship and warm and cheerful approach to life

To dear Janet and Helen: I know you will treasure the comments that Shirley’s friends have left for you. My thoughts are the same in that I found Shirley warm and helpful and welcoming. She opened her arms and home to Ron and I and was indefatigable in making sure we had everything we could possibly need. I was instantly comfortable with her. She shared her precious memories of her Gilbert and Sullivan days – what fun she had singing with them.
You are in my thoughts and prayers as we all try to accept the shock of her loss. She will be sorely missed. All love, Nancy
