Arrangements for the funeral of Peter Priestley
Thursday 28th May 2020 12.30pm
Robin Hood Crematorium
Peter’s family will be attending a ceremony at Robin Hood crematorium on 28th May to say goodbye to him.
Sadly due to the current coronavirus pandemic, funerals are being limited to close family members only in a crematorium, so the service is restricted.
A live webcast of the service however will be available for those people who are unable to attend.

Spent many hours will Pol and Pete at Jazz Festivals and golf.

Dear Polly
Many thanks for your email and am very sorry to hear about Pete. I didn’t know him personally but have known of him through Kings Heath as long as you have been married to him. I know he was a very keen sportsman and having cricket and tennis on your doorstep was very convenient, even golf if you wanted to cross the main road. You have looked after him for quite a few years now and I know you will miss him terribly.
Will be thinking of you at this time and especially as numbers due to the virus, have been cut right back. I am unable to come to the funeral but my thoughts are with you and when we can have visitors at the Golf Club will invite you to come over and have a game as competitions seem to have been cancelled for this season.

I first met Peter when he came up to midlands to live and he join Kings Norton Rugby Club. I was 3rd team captain at the time and it was areal pleasure to have Peter playing for us. He used to play in the back row and was renowned for his fearless tackling.
We spent many times socialising together both drinking and going for curries. In fact Peter introduced me to eating curries during dining at his house.
Peter will be sadly missed
All the best Polly we may see you some time at one of your jazz evenings.

Although Pete’s playing days at Kings Norton Rugby Club were slightly before mine, I have fond memories of seeing Pete at the Club on many occasions. He was always cheerful and always supportive. Pete was a true rugby man through and through – he will be sadly missed.

Peter Noel Priestley was my Dad and he was a great guy who was loved by many. He loved his family and friends, his sports and music and of course his beer. We have been so far away in distance at times but you were always in our hearts. You always will be. Love to Polly and family. RIP Dad knowing you are loved always by your beloved Daughter Linda, Grandsons Jason and Kurt, Great Grandaughter Shaylee and Great Grandson Axle in Australia

I didn’t know Peter very well but he had all the attributes of a proper sportsman. Friendly,sociable,generous of spirit and active.If he wasn’t at Kings Heath enjoying a beer with friends then he would just as likely be on the bowling green or a jazz festival somewhere with Polly.
His close community of friends will miss him but they won’t forget him.
I played golf with Peter regularly and I remember one Sunday afternoon it was raining the proverbial ‘cats and dogs’ so On the 16th tee I said to Peter shall we call it a day we are both wringing wet and not enjoying it. No way he said there is a certain amount of pride in completing 18 holes of golf even in the rain. So on we went
We shall miss you Pete. We shall remember you for your sense of humour, your charm and your generosity. . Our curtains always looked superb when you cleaned them for us. (That was in the days when we could take them down)
you were a bandit on the golf course and we had a lot of fun and a good many laughs together at Shirley.
In the short time (four years ) we got to know Peter, we realised what a lovely man he was with a great sense of humour.
Len and I will miss having the occasional drink with him down the club and at the social dancing events organised by Polly where we were well looked after.

Our thoughts will be with you tomorrow and we know that you will always keep many treasured memories of special times spent together either on the golf course, at jazz festivals or camping holidays.
We are saying goodbye to one of the great characters of Kings Heath Cricket & Sports Club. A great sporting & social member, a stalwart of the retail outlets in King Heath.
He tested me & Helen when we started at the Club (KHCC) because it was his Club. But he was a man of banter, a man of fun, a man who loved life. But a family man at heart. Polly you were blessed with some wonderful fun years.
We are saying goodbye to one of the great characters of Kings Heath Cricket & Sports Club. Helen & I remember Peter well as we started our journey at the Club. A great stalwart of the high street retail trade. We enjoyed your company Pete.

I am so very sad not to be there today to say a final goodbye to Pete and to support my dearest friend Pol. We have been together through thick and thin since the age of 11. One of Shirley Golf Club’s characters – Pete will be missed by all. He had a great sense of humour and nothing seemed to phase him – took everything in his stride, good games, great wins and losses and he was always back in the bar to share stories and a bit of banter! A great Kings Norton RFC man. I did not play with Peter but carry fond memories of discussions with him over the past years when he came back to see us. A loyal Club member and a man who was always a pleasure to talk to with a good sense of humour, a Rugby Man.
Peter was great fun. One of our happiest photos is of Peter, pint in hand, at his 60th birthday party. We greatly enjoyed playing in golf Opens with he and Polly. Great nights too at Shirley Golf Club. Peter was a splendid fellow; always determined to have, and give others, a good time. We’ll miss him.
So sad to hear about Pete, Upton Jazz festival will not be the same .

What a lovely service you created to celebrate the life of Peter. I really appreciated the chance to be included, I was very moved. The end of a life is such a final thing. I am thankful to have been able to share that moment with you. It was a true reflection of Peter, done with love and affection. All my love to the family.
Good that people could attend the virtual service even though they couldn’t be at Robin Hood where so many of the family’s funerals have taken place. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
So pleased I could be at Pete’s funeral, albeit virtual. It was a lovely poignant service; well done to you all. Pol, what you said was so moving.
