Every year in May, the Dying Matters coalition host an awareness week across the UK. The aim is to encourage people to have the #BigConversation- talk about their wishes for the end of their life. The approach is to provide stimulating, friendly and practical support to those having what are often seen as difficult conversations about death.
Last May we held our own Dying Matters Awareness Week event in Kings Heath, Birmingham. You can see our lovely short film of the event here.
Because of the success of our event we were asked to speak at the launch this year in London. We used our experiences with families to talk about the importance of talking to friends and family about your funeral wishes, what is possible in a funeral and how to engage with funeral directors. We had a hugely positive response, and hopefully encouraged delegates from around the UK to have positive and lively conversation about the range of funerals and choices at their own events.
We were among many brilliant speakers. You can get a full summary of the event at the Dying Matters website. We have some exciting things planned for this year’s Awareness Week and would encourage you to find out what is happening local to you. get involved!
Talking about death and dying can be surprisingly uplifting!
